Tea Act of 1773
The Tea Act of 1773 was passed in order to save Britain's East India Company and it gave the company the right to export its merchandise directly to the colonies without paying any of the navigation taxes imposed on the colonial merchants. The East India Company could then undersell merchants and monopolize the colonial tea trade. This act angered many colonists and revived American passions about the issue of taxation without representation.
