Battle at Trenton
On Christmas night in 1776, George Washington and his men crossed the Delaware River, surprised the Hessians, and occupied Trenton. He continued to Princeton and drove down a British force, but was unable to hold either Princeton or Trenton. He then took refuge in New Jersey.
