Albany Plan
The Albany Plan was a plan by which Parliament would set up one general government for all of the colonies in America and each colony would continue to have its present constitution but would allow the new general government to have certain powers, such as the authority to deal with relations with the Indians. This plan was proposed by Benjamin Franklin at a meeting in Albany in 1954 in which the purpose was to negotiate possible treaties with the Iroquois as the British had instructed them to do so. The sketch on the right illustrates the need for colonial unity as specified in Franklin's plan.
