Benedict Arnold
In the first phase of the Revolutionary War, Benedict Arnold served as the commander of a small American force. He threatened Quebec in late 1775 and early 1776 after a winter march or incredible hardship. Richard Montgomery had to come to his assistance and the campaign ended in frustration. In the second phase, he continued to aid the other generals and troops. In the final phase of the war, he shocked the American forces by becoming a traitor. He was convinced that the American cause was hopeless and conspired with British agents to betray the Patriot stronghold at West Point on the Hudson River. The scheme unraveled before Arnold could complete it, and he fled to the safety of the British camp, where he spent the rest of the war.
