Lexington and Concord
With General Thomas Gage, the British were sent to Lexington and Concord to take gunpowder and arrest Sam Adams and John Hancock with the intent of surprising the colonists. At Lexington, the first shots or "the shots heard round the world" were fired. Lexington and Concord were the first battles of a war, and the War for Independence had officially begun.
