Sugar Act of 1764
Also known as the American Revenue Act or the American Duties Act, the Sugar Act of 1764 was a revenue-raising act passed by the Parliament of Great Britain on April 5, 1764. It was an indirect tax, but the tax program was highly visible to the colonists. It brought about opposition because it was an example of taxation without representation.
