Stamp Act of 1764
This act imposed a direct tax on the colonies of British America and required that printed materials be produced on stamped paper, carrying a revenue stamp. It was very unpopular among the colonists because it was considered a violation of their rights to be taxed without their consent. It was another example of taxation without representation.
