Regulator Movement
Farmers in North Carolina who opposed the high taxes and failed to gain any remedy or attention of their grievances were known as the Regulators. They armed themselves and resisted tax collections physically by force. Governor William Tyron created an army and suppressed the revolt in the Battle of Alamance and killed over 2,000 Regulators.
